The Golden Coach in the Amsterdam Museum
Until February 27th 2022 the Amsterdam Museum’s inner court is home to the Golden Coach, the Dutch State Coach used by the Royal Family. It has recently been renovated and the current discussion on the (re)usage of the Coach concentrates on a side panel that nowadays is controversial. This panel represents the symbolic figure of the Dutch Virgin being presented with gifts from people from the Dutch colonies.
In an exhibition covering 7 rooms of the Amsterdam Museum the history of the Coach and its controversies are explained. The museum aims at showing all perspectives on the coach. Contemporary artists have been invited to make new work for this exhibition, using the coach as inspiration. The 90 minute tour helps you in formulating your own opinion on the Coach and it’s usage.
